3 Tips For Keeping Your Sofa Looking Like New

When you’re going to be spending a decent amount of money on a new sofa, you’re going to want to make sure that this financial investment is well worth it to you. And to do this, it will help to know how to best care for your sofa and keep it looking and feeling great for years to come. This way, you won’t have to replace it for a while.

To help you with this goal, here are three tips for keeping your sofa looking like new.

Give Your Sofa Extra Support

When your sofa is new, you might find yourself feeling like it’s a little and could use a bit of breaking in. However, you’ll want to be careful with the amount of breaking in that you allow to happen without giving your sofa some extra support.

If you allow your sofa to get broken in to the point that it begins to sag or gets far more use in certain seats than others, adding some additional support can help to breathe new life back into the seats. To do this, you’ll want to add something like MDF board under the cushions and between the bottom seat of the sofa. This structure will help give the cushions some added support and help to more evenly distribute the weight along the structure of the sofa so it doesn’t wear unevenly.

Vacuum Your Sofa Weekly

To help your sofa continue to look like new, you’ll want to commit to keeping it clean on a regular basis. In most cases, this will mean vacuuming the sofa on about a weekly basis.

Since crumbs and other debris are likely to fall on and into your sofa regularly, whether you allow for people to eat on the furniture or not, having a regular schedule for vacuuming will help to keep these things from causing harm to your sofa. Because if you allow debris to linger on your cushions, they can rub into the material of the sofa and cause damage, resulting in deterioration of the quality of the sofa. But if you’re regularly removing the debris by vacuuming, you can drastically lengthen the life of your furniture.

Find A Cleaning Solution That Works For You

Along with vacuuming your sofa at least weekly, you should also have a cleaning solution in place that you can use if and when something more intense happens to your sofa that needs cleaning.

Depending on what your sofa is made of, you may be able to use water for cleaning, a mild cleaning solution, steam, or have your sofa dry cleaned. But if you know what your options are before a mess happens, you can be ready with this cleaning option so that you can clean up messes and spills as soon as they happen.

If you want to keep your sofa looking like new regardless of how long you’ve had it, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you in doing this.
